Mourning Rituals in Karbala Mark Imam Sadiq Martyrdom Anniversary

IQNA – Like Shia Muslims elsewhere in the world, people in holy cities in Iraq attended ceremonies to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Sadiq (AS) on Saturday.

One such events was organized by the Astan (custodianship) of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine in Karbala, 

It was attended by pilgrims as well as officials and staff of the Astan, al-Kafeel website reported.

There were also mourning rituals held in the holy city of Kadhimiya, including one at the holy shrine of Imam Kadhim (AS).

Jafar ibn Muhammad al-Sadiq, Imam Sadiq (AS), was born on the 17th day of the month of Rabi al-Awwal in the year 83 Hijri (702 AD) in Medina.

The sixth Imam, attained martyrdom on the 25th of Shawwal in the year 148 AH.

It was during the Caliphate of Abu Jafar Mansoor Abbasi. Imam Sadiq (AS) lived 65 years.

He had the longest life amongst the other Imams (AS) except Imam Zaman (may God hasten his glad advent). Thus, he is also called the Sheikh-ul-Aimma.
